Brilliant piece. I’ve been thinking about weighing in on Linker’s silly attacks on the "alt-right" but you said pretty much everything that needs to be said.
I was looking forward to this series because the purportedly-thoughtful Left* Who Study The Right usually obsess over Claremont and random homosexual tiffs from the 80s, rarely engaging with smart, current posters. I wanted to see one of them try. But what we ultimately got were (as you say) short biographical sketches, prefaced in places by preening disavowals -- not substantive grappling with anybody's ideas. It speaks poorly of him that he blocked you.
*Linker isn't a leftist, but he obviously wants to join that convo
This is a terrific article. Especially appreciated the critique at the end and the “real ring of gyges” line which I’m stealing and going to use in conversation!
Status is contingent upon the audience in question, and the higher the status necessarily the smaller the audience.
The pedagogue risks the hemlock (or the Cross) should his present company grow too light, but in return that company continues to grow through the ages.
The demagogue takes refuge in the numerical strength of the mob, but will soon enough find himself friendless and forgotten.
Linker will have his reward. Don’t sell yourself short, bub.

Let's have it out. Big time debates like the old forum days.
The disavowals are the point. Like a cattle brand to tell you he’s owned.

Sailer’s asking a question that you’re well qualified to answer if your reply guy game is up to Unz Review combox standards:
