Who is responsible for the "defeat" of "identity politics"?
Jonathan Chait, Matt Yglesias, Marxist Journalists, and Classical Liberals!
I’ve been deep in the weeds with Nikole Hannah-Jones and Ta-Nehisi Coates and a few other hyphenated authors, so forgive me for the delay in writing. Long form is coming soon.
There’s a new trend in punditry I’ve noticed: to declare identity politics over in one way or another. Setting aside the absurdity of the stronger claim that identity politics is going away (it will never go away), these takes suggest that there have been at least minor victories against more intrusive forms of identity politics. Polls back this up, as I documented in my previous post, demonstrating that people are increasingly resistant to the racialization of public school curricula.
